As It Happened: Dalhousie Tigers (W) v. Memorial Seahawks (W)---AUS Oct. 2, 2009

Pregame: I've got nothin'. And since we're still not live, I'm unlikely to get anything. I can tell you Jack Hutchison might play with his roster a bit, but we all knew that anyway.

Good opportunity to watch Laura Breen tonight. SHe was the only AUS player named to Canada's Universiade roster, and she can score, though she hasn't yet this year.

MUN: Eavis, Windsor, Thistle, Dawe, Whitten, Tobin, Adams, Hansford, Breen, Harris, Pope.

1min: MUN kick off and backtrack straight out of play. Goal kick.

4min: A long free kick forces Armstrong into a somewhat awkward save. She collides with Crewe and only just manages to finger it over Pope's head.

6min: Kate MacDonald, otherwise known as "Nugget," loops a cross towards Donald. Eavis claims it.

7min: Henry is beaten a bit too easily by Thistle. Armstrong saves Thistle's shot.

9min: MUN coach Walt Mavin is playing Laura Breen at centre back. Centre back! The best striker in AUS, she is, remember.

10min: Harris now gets by Crewe and forces Amrstrong to challenge. Harris chips it over the Dal 'keeper and miles wide. Very poor start by Dalhousie.

13min: Dal commit their fifth foul in 13 minutes. Somehow, MUN fail to score. 8 Dal players watch the ball fall to Thistle who dribbles around Armstrong before losing control of the ball and watching it out for a goal kick. Completely open net for her, it would only have taken one touch. Comedy miss, but atrocious defending from the Tigers. The ball in bounced three times in the Dal box, and no one seemed to care too much.

16min: Nugget gets a rather undeserved scoring chance as Dawe lets her in. She can't get by Eavis, but the MUN 'keeper drops the ball right back to her, who shoots straight into Dawe's shinpads. Landry comes off for Richard.

19min: Harris dribbles very easily through the Dal midfield and then makes a terrible hash of her pass to Adams.

22min: It's pretty apparent that Laura Breen has no idea how to play defense, either. She keeps letting Richard and MacDonald get loose and her marking is poor at best.

23min: The MUN men's team berate the ref for a call they feel is unjust. Can Tyler Putt really manage to get sent off before te game even begins?

26min: The ref calls Henry for a foul miles from the ball, but rather near the area. Now Breen comes forward. And she shows why she should be playing striker, by looping a shot just over the bar that Armstrong would never have saved if it had been on target.

30min: Hansford goes past Colleen MacDonald, tries to round Armstrong, and loses possession. It's out for a corner.

33min: Breen really wants to get forward. She's coming way up to pressure the Dal forwards and giving Richard a lot of space in behind her.

35min: Donald has a go and Harris jumps out of the way, exposing the bottom corner. Eavis lunges to her right and clears it. Santilli gets the rebound but can only blaze it over the bar.

36min: Dawe gets booked for attempting to remove Richard's shorts.

37min: Whitten comes off for Warren and O'Reilly for Johnstone. That'll give Dal a more conventional 4-4-2 formation.

38min: Morrison with some excellent possession in midfield before being felled by Tobin.

42min: Harris now whiffs on a clearance, giving Santilli time int he box. Santilli, though, mishits her shot.

45+min: MUN win a corner which is cleared.

Half-time: Rain time, too. Hold on, I have to find my umbrella.

-They're back, just as the rain stops. I'm now soaked while the players are perfectly dry. Changes: Landry's back in for Donald. That's pretty much it. The pitch will be a lot slicker now. We had a real downpour for a few minutes.

47min: Eavis stops a low roller from Richard. That deserved a better finish. Santilli now sends a one-bouncer to Eavis. Also saved.

49min: Landry is fouled from behind an gets called for diving. If the ref had any solid basis for that call he'd have booked her.

51min: Crossbar! Eavis gets caught off her line and Huck sends a cross in. Breen heads it off hr own crossbar and out. Eavis was at sea for a while there and Dal really should have worked a little more possession before going for goal.

57min: Dal worka bit more wide pressure and Breen again looks out of place in the back line. She just tends to hoof the ball clear and Dal are winning a lot of possession as a result.

60min: Breen miscommits on a header and Richard flies past her. Breen manages not to foul Richard in the box, instead conceding corner. Tobin off for Williams, an exchange of two players who share surnames with Newfoundland premiers. There's a fun fact for you.

62min: Landry picks out Richard, who wins a corner.

63min: Off the line as Johnstone flicks goalwards.

64min: Off the line! Again! The next corner is fired on goal by Huck. Eavis is lost again and it's blocked by Dawe, I think.

65min: Player down for MUN. It's Nicole Adams, who limps back to midfield. She's alright. Looked like her ankle got clipped by Henry.

67min: Corner to MUN. Pope puts it in and Harris has a chance which she miscontrols.

68min: A MUN free kick forces Armstong to punch clear. Good goalkeeping from Armstrong. I suspect the competition with McKenna has really helped her raise her game.

69min: Henry dashes forward and Richard bacheels to Landry, who is flattened as she shoots wide.

72min: Johnstone is fouled out wide left. Santilli's free kick finds its way to Eavis.

75min: Armstrong beaten, but Thistle can't find away to get the ball in the net. That's the second time that's happened tonight.

77min: Breen wrecks another clearance, skying it up in the air. Dal can't turn the pressure into a goal.

79min: Thistle comes off for Tilley.

80min: Landry does extremely well to win a corner, taking on Windsor and winning. The delivery is headed out for a throw.

82min: Nugget runs onto a looped pass and is all alone. She can't control it though and it bobbles out. And now Hansford collides with Morrison and goes down hard. She's hurt her back, but isn't coming off.

83min: Huck makes a great run, but Landry's header is poor. Dal win a corner.

84min: Huck corrals the broken play and smashes a lethal-looking shot inches over the bar.

86min: Richard gets decked on a counter and no foul is called. MUN break the other way and Armstrong saves Thistle's shot.

90min: Crewe is pushed and Dal win a free kick. Huck puts it wide. Thistle off for Tilley.

90+min: GOAL! Richard scores! What a series of glaring mistakes from MUN, too! Warren gifts possession to Kate MacDonald on the wing. She shoots from an atrocious angle, but Eavis drops it and Richard is on hand to bundle it into the net.

90+min: Full-time. MUN have no time to answer back and Dal win.

Great way to win, not such a great way to play. I have certain suspicions that Richard was offside on that goal, but I have absolutely no way to confirm it and my angle was pretty bad. Neither team put on much of a show here, but Dal did rally considerably late in the game to pressure MUN. Perhaps deservedly, they get this win.
