Setting the Record Straight: A Few Updates After a Long Week

By: Dylan Matthias

A few things happened over the weekend: Colleen MacDonald and Gillian Clarke of the Dal women's team transferred to King's. Zach Bauld, initially recruited by Dal, is now at SMU. It's wilder than late August in the EPL.

This weekend sees the Tigers host a Cape Breton program whose teams suffered three major upset losses on the weekend to UPEI and MUN. SSN will have the game with Dal Soccer Live blogger Dylan Matthias providing colour commentary with Bill McLean. You can see the games at Wickwire field on Saturday at 5pm and 7:15pm.

Dal's men will look to make amends for a nervy 2-2 draw with Moncton that could have been a loss until Ross Hagen converted a last gasp penalty. The women lost Reika Santilli on Saturday to a broken tibia, and will rely on Kate MacDonald and Katie Richard to provide offense now Jeanette Huck must drop to right back.

On Saturday, King's head to Burnside to take on St. Thomas, then return home on Sunday to host UNB Saint John. The Blue Devils started the season in disappointing fashion as the women drew 0-0 with Holland College and the men lost 5-2 to their playoff foes from last fall. The Blue Devils play Saturday at 6pm and 8pm and Sunday at 11am and 1pm.

We hope to bring you much more university soccer coverage in the next few weeks once Dylan has internet in his apartment on Monday. Weekend wraps, player ratings, As It Happened, previews, and all our other material will be back once Dylan can write it while waiting for the kettle to boil.

Predicted starting line-ups against CBU (and last week proved exactly how silly these will make us look, but they're too fun not to do):

Men:

----------Hutchison--------Lewars------------
----Rajan-----Hagen-----Haughn-----Hart--
---Hooey-----Weymann-----Rogers----Dalziel
------------------------Ur--------------------------

Mazurkiewich could replace Hart if he's healthy, we were hearing he may be banged up on the weekend. Abuchie Ezurike could feature after a strong performance last weekend, but a start might be a little much.

Women:

-----Richard-----MacDonald-------
----Landry-----Wallace----O'Reilly--
-----------------Mitchell---------------
----Vanderlaan---Crewe---Henry----Huck
---------------------McKenna--------------

The women are hurting a bit right now, but Vanderlaan was a nice surprise last weekend. And Emma Landry scored! I'm still waiting to see a flash of Bianca Jakisa.

Cape Breton players to watch: For the men, everything keys on Andrew Rigby until Keishen Bean pops up and scores. They've also added a new striker (not that the CBU website would have told you). The women have the ever-dangerous Erika Lannon and Alyssa Budhoo scoring goals. Both Dal teams will have to defend tightly and Taryn McKenna should be forced to make saves this week.

Tune in to SSN Canada for game coverage. We'll have breakdown as soon as Dylan's internet is plugged in on Monday.
